Past students of Mawuli School in Ho resident in North America (OMSU-NA), have renovated the school’s old Home Science block and converted it into a computer laboratory. The laboratory has also been furnished with 200 computers at an estimated cost of $60,000.
Handing over the project to the school’s authorities, the project coordinator of the OMSU-NA, Mr. Theophilus Afenya, said the gesture would offer students the opportunity to study Information and Communications Technology (ICT) before passing out of the school.
Largest contributor
The global president of the Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU), Madam Edem Djanie, noted that the North America chapter of OMSU was noted for being the largest contributor to the development of the school, mentioning the renovation of a dormitory block and a clinic for the school as some of the capital-intensive projects by OMSU.
The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Nelson Akorli, asked the students to use the computers effectively for the intended purpose.
The Headmaster of the school, Reverend Samuel Senanu Asieni said the provision of a well-equipped computer laboratory was a big relief for the school because it would serve the large number of students and also contribute to the achievement of goals set under the school’s five-year strategic plan.
The 92/94 Year group
In another development, the 1992/94 Year Group of the school has donated two laptops, 300 desks and a quantity of drugs, all valued at GH₵30,000 to the school.
The president of the year group, Mr. Francis Awuye-Kpobi, said its contribution to the school was to show appreciation to the institution for offering them quality education that had contributed to their growth and development after passing out of the school 25 years ago.
He was accompanied by the Vice-President of the year group, Dr. Yvonne Agbetsoamedo; the Secretary, Dr. Divine Akwensivie; the Resident Representative, Mr. Divine Sitsofe Osei and Togbe Adzimah V.
